All Nomination forms will be reviewed by the Green Light committee. A Qualified Nomination Contestant will receive an e-mail confirmation at which time they will be able to make arrangements with LPC (O) to receive 300 memberships and a current membership list for the riding.
Rule 6.3 of the Ontario Rules for the Selection of Candidates provides that Nomination Contestants must consent to any and all background checks that the Ontario Campaign Chairs consider to be appropriate to have undertaken. While this may vary from candidate to candidate, we have determined that at minimum, in all cases, the required checks will include a criminal record check through the police, and a credit check through a credit reporting agency such as Equifax (www.equifax.ca) or TransUnion (www.transunion.ca).
While the Rules merely require candidates to sign authorizations permitting Party staff to obtain such credit checks, credit checks and criminal record checks are not typically released to third parties, and accordingly, potential nomination candidates are advised that they must obtain such reports on their own, and submit them, wherever possible, with their nomination papers, or in any case, as soon as possible thereafter.
Credit reports can be obtained online for a moderate charge, and most police services will provide a written response to such requests in short order.
Nomination papers submitted without such checks will not be refused by LPCO, but may not be processed through the Green Light Committee, until the necessary reports have been obtained.
